Meet Robert Clark: No Shortcuts to Great Client Service
By Fello Logistics
Robert Clark has never believed he had to settle for less than excellence at anything, even if his circumstances might have suggested otherwise. When he played running back at Concordia College – a Moorhead, MN- based liberal arts college – he managed to parlay his limited-school success into a tryout with the Denver Broncos.
When he joined Coyote Logistics, he worked hard to grow the company’s small and midsize business clientele, but was told not to go after bigger accounts.
Robert has always wanted to do more, and he wanted to apply the human touch that would really make a difference for clients. He found that opportunity in 2023 with Fello Logistics, joining the company as senior account executive.
“I help grow sales and increase partnerships with our customers and stakeholders,” Robert said. “Then we create a partnership that is best for the customer and their transportation needs.”
He found the Fello opportunity attractive because the company’s philosophy of customer service was a good fit for his own – and it’s an approach that’s hard to find in the logistics field, let alone in the business community at large.
“The more open you are with customers in the industry, the more you show humility and honesty, the more they will value you as a partner and want to work with you as long as you hold up that end of the commitment,” Robert said.
Some of the Fello practices that Robert especially appreciates include zero tolerance for dropped trucks and extensive, proactive communication with clients on both the pickup and delivery side – using the Macropoint for Truckers app.
“Customers love that we provide that information so they don’t have to actively ask us,” Robert said. “Our commitment to our great communication and service to our customers is proven in what we do. Then, for me, the human touch and having the integrity to do the right thing. If for some reason I screw up, I’ll still have the integrity to bite the bullet on that.”
Just as much, Robert appreciates the open communication culture at Fello that ensures the whole team is on the same page.
It’s all consistent with how he approaches every aspect of his life – going hard, preparing thoroughly and leading by example.
“I was always the captain on my sports teams because I would be passionate about how I trained,” he said. “What I’m doing as a father or as a human being is the same. I’ve always had the philosophy of work hard and play hard. And I try to be present in everything I’m doing, whether it’s work or outside work.”
He still applies that philosophy outside of work to sports, where he has coached dryland hockey training for the past 20 years, including several young players who have made it to Division 1 college competitions and even to the National Hockey League.
“I try to be passionate about everything I do,” Robert said. “So bring it on. Life is too short.”
