Meet Dylan Campbell: The Fello Clients’ Get-It-Done Champion

“None of us are afraid to pick up the phone and solve a problem.”

Few statements exemplify the culture of Fello Logistics more than that one from Vice President Dylan Campbell. And it’s no surprise considering the example Dylan sets every day – especially when you understand how he formed that philosophy.

Dylan began in logistics at CH Robinson and eventually moved onto a large, Swiss-based 3PL that serves more than 400,000 customers in 100 countries. He grasped the fast-paced nature and the complexities of the industry with ease. And he noticed how quickly technology was taking the place of real service. That didn’t sit right with him given what he had learned in life about taking care of people.

As a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2013 to 2020, and crew chief for his platoon, Dylan worked in the challenging field of aircraft rescue. While he never had to be deployed to combat in his eight years of serving, he learned “overall resilience and being comfortable with being uncomfortable.”

The same determination he learned during aircraft rescue drills – and the same willingness to embrace the uncomfortable – is reflected today in the way he handles client needs at Fello. In an industry that’s becoming so digitized and automated, listening to clients and understanding their needs are no longer givens.

But Dylan is convinced that shippers still need and expect those things.

“One of our first big accounts we were able to flourish with because of this mentality,” Dylan said. “They had been going through a large broker and getting pretty good rates but they didn’t really have a lot of support navigating the industry. It’s a complex market, so a lot of people go into it confused, which is totally understandable. They were getting a lot of missed shipments, damages – issues all around. There was no proactive communication from the broker, and a lot of what should have been handled by an account manager was outsourced to automated e-mails or a third party in a different country.”

When Fello took over the account, Dylan told the team they needed to put some serious thought into how to improve the shipper’s situation.

“We found a network of box trucks for this customer,” Dylan said. “It offered a unique service where we were able to place them with a network of smaller fleets of one-to-five drivers, which required some internal sourcing on our end. They got the same exact service they’d been looking for but in a much more efficient way, and we mitigated all their damages and their issues. Now they’re very happy, and they know they can call us any time.”

It may not have had the spine-tingling drama of an aircraft rescue, but Dylan understands it was just as important for that customer. And that attitude is the same type that he brings into every client account.

Only 28, the Eden Prairie, Minnesota native enjoys golf, playing guitar (blues and classic rock), reading, exercise and personal development. He and business partner Dillon Blesi challenge each other to keep up on reading, and to date Dylan says the most impactful book he’s read is The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.

Dillon Blesi clearly recognizes the critical role Dylan plays for the company and its customers.

“He’s really the glue for the whole sales team,” Dillon said. “He had all the initial clients, and he does whatever it takes to get the job done for them, no matter what. No excuses. He’s also a great friend and a great guy. He cares about people and he’s there for people.”

But be warned: He also loves jokes and pranks so don’t let your guard down. You know a Marine sergeant trained in aircraft rescue never would.
