Attention to detail is useful in any business. And it is critical in logistics, especially when it has to do with the finances of the operation.
That is one reason why Alexandria Garrett is such a valued member of the Fello Logistics team. Alexandria serves as Fello’s accounts payable manager while also handling the claims department. She makes sure carriers and vendors alike get paid, and she understands this sometimes requires more than just checking the ledger and issuing payments.
“Maybe a specific carrier has a situation that they need immediate payment or something, and I’ll just try to work with them and build a more personal relationship with them,” Alexandria said. “Let’s say we have a carrier who runs a lot of loads with us. That’s one of our dedicated carriers. We love the work that they’ve done with us. If they need something, we want to try to treat them as humanely as possible and understand that they’re also just a working person in this business.”
It’s that perspective that adds a true compassion to Alexandria’s laser-like attention to detail. They were qualities that CEO Dillon Blesi saw when he encouraged Alexandria to join the company in 2022. Although the initial conversations involved her working as a broker – and the accounting position was seen at first as only temporary – Alexandria quickly recognized she had found her spot.
“I kept telling Dillon I wanted a sales job or a commission-based job, because throughout my life that was always what my parents or any personality test I had taken said that I was geared toward,” she said. “But he had me take some tests for him and I ranked in the high percentile of very precise people, and people who follow a lot of rules. He thought this was a good fit for me, although when I started, he said, ‘You’re only going to do this for six months, maybe, and then I’ll move you into something else.’ But it just ended up being a perfect fit. I absolutely fell in love with it.”
There will be no moving to something else any time soon, because Alexandria is in a perfect position to augment the rest of the team’s strong service orientation while doing everything she can to strengthen relationships with carriers and keep the finances flowing as they should.
“When we work with carriers and we work with a lot of our customers, they say nothing but good things to me about, like, you guys are so pleasant to work with, you’re so easy to work with,” she said. “They feel like we really care, and we do. Even as somebody who works in the claims department, who handles most of our claims, that is not a fun sector for anybody. But somehow I feel like we still manage to build and maintain those long-lasting and outstanding relationships with people, and really try to do the best that we can, not just by the customer but by our carrier, because our business would not be the business that it is without them.”
It wouldn’t be the business it is without Alexandria Garrett either.
A native of Gainesville, Florida who studied at Florida’s Santa Fe College, she moved to the Santa Rosa, California area after visiting a cousin who lives there and completely fell in love with the area. When she’s not taking a precise by-the-book approach to her accounting work, Alexandria enjoys reading and outdoor activities – especially volleyball and volunteering.
